about

I am a hugger. And I grew up in the sticks, where people say things like "half-ass."

Really though, the song is about a moment of saying goodbye to a long-time lover and partner--the heartache of a careful and short embrace where there once was warmth and passion.

lyrics

I'm tired of this illusion that I am not alone
Because I am so alone
I am so alone
And I keep hearing that it's not my fault
But I don't know

What did I do? What did I do?
What did I do that was so wrong for you?
Oh I keep hearing that it's not my fault
But I don't know

And when he gives me this half-ass hug
One arm on my shoulder, oh I think,
"Don't hold me like that, don't hold me like that."
He says, "Take care," and I say,
"I love you still. I love you, still,"

Oh I keep hearing that it's not my fault
But I don't know.
